Effect of solid-solution strengthening on deformation mechanisms and strain hardening in medium-entropy V1-Cr CoNi alloys

High- and medium-entropy alloys (HEAs MEAs) possess high solid-solution strength. Numerous investigations have been conducted on its impact yield strength, however, there are limited reports regarding the relation between strengthening strain-hardening rate. In addition, no attempt has made to account for dislocation-mediated plasticity; most works focused twinning- or transformation-induced plasticity (TWIP TRIP). this work we reveal role of rate via systematically investigating evolutions deformation structures by controlling Cr/V ratio in prototypical V1-xCrxCoNi alloys. Comparing TWIP CrCoNi with dislocation slip V0.4Cr0.6CoNi, hardening was superior slip-band refinements V0.4Cr0.6CoNi due dynamic Hall-Petch effect. However, as V content increased further V0.7Cr0.3CoNi VCoNi, their refinement VCoNi strength surpassed that CrCoNi. Although it is generally accepted conventional twinning results a higher than plasticity, observed latter can be predominant former under an activated huge The lowered cross-slip activation consequently retarded rearrangement rate, i.e., recovery.
